RCS Staffing has an immediate need for a Distribution Engineering Manager in Honolulu, HI. This is a full time, direct hire, hybrid position with our client.
Overview of YOUR role as a Distribution Engineering Manager:
We are seeking a Distribution Engineering Manager in Honolulu, HI to support electric utility design engineering for Hawaiian Electric in Honolulu, HI. The role involves both supervisory and technical responsibilities, requiring a candidate to manage design and construction packages for electrical distribution systems.
As a Distribution Engineering Manager, YOU will:
- Oversee the design and construction work package development of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems (operating from 4kV through 138kV) from design teams.
- Ensure project and program deliverables meet Client quality requirements.
- Ensure team is monitoring backlog and employee utilization. Address low utilization issues as appropriate.
- Responsible for:
- Leadership of program and responsibility to Customer
- Main point of contact with Customer (Supervisors and Directors)
- Prompt and accurate communication with Customers
- Scope, schedule, and budget for programs overseen in conjunction with PMO
- Supporting Supervisors as needed to ensure efficient, quality and timely delivery of work product
- Coordinating program needs with resources, including new hires or personnel turnover
- Ensure overall program success through management of:
- Supervisors and project management personnel
- Customer systems and automation tools
- Team organization and roles
- Encourage safe work practices while maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule and budget.
- Ensure program team, QAQC, and Supervisors are adhering to good engineering practice and maintaining efficient scope delivery to Customers
- Work collaboratively with client engineering, operations and other departments to ensure work products and services meet expectations and commitments.
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
- Work under Director of Engineering to ensure program success for scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Travel to sites as needed to meet Client, Construction Crews, and provide direction to team.
- Provide technical support to team as needed and guidance for program decisions, including Customer interactions.
- Lead coordination with outside agencies, Client customers, and 3rd party owners as required.
- Support on-contract growth with existing Customer (HEI) by maintaining strong professional relationships with client contacts.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
- Support new Business Development by leveraging industry contacts.
YOU are the ideal Distribution Engineering Manager candidate if you have:
- Requires BS Degree in an Engineering Discipline and 6+ years of relevant experience with 2+ years in a leadership role OR MS Degree in Engineering and 4+ years of relevant experience with 2+ years in a leadership role; Relevant experience is either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing design engineering
- Professional Engineer License in Hawaii or ability to obtain PE License in Hawaii within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of NESC Standards required
- Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc
- Knowledge of Client (HEI) Standards preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Previous Experience managing/supervising employees
- Proficiency in Project Management for engineering design
- Ability to work directly with Clients and Client’s Customers to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Willingness to perform both field and office work.
- Overnight travel may be required (10-20% travel)
- Ability to work in outdoor environments.
- Ability to utilize personal vehicle.
